Passengers ride the Santa Tereza Tram (Bonde) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With origins dating from 1872, the two lines of the tram are all that is left of what was once an extensive streetcar system in Rio de Janeiro.. It runs from downtown Rio de Janeiro to the mountainous neighborhood of Santa Tereza, formerly an aristocratic area and now experiencing a bohemian regeneration. the tram has become a symbol of the neighborhood and one of the mandatory tourist stops in Rio.(Australfoto/Douglas Engle)
