UN troops train in Rio Slum
Read MoreBrazilian soldiers train in urban warfare in the Tavares Bastos slum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Oct. 29, 2007, in preparation for service as part of United Nations forces in Haiti. The Brazilian military leads the UN military mission to Haiti known as MINUSTAH, which took over from a U.S. military mission that arrived after Jean Bertand Aristide's ouster and remained until late June 2004. Despite some criticism, the force has by and large brought peace to the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. Some say that Brazil is using the mission to gain support in its quest for a permanent seat on the UN security council.(Australfoto/Renzo Gostoli)
