Embratel President Jorge Luis Rodriguez greets people during the presentation of the Embratel Journalism Prize in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rodriguez , born on April 3, 1957, has been the President of Embratel, Brazil's largest long-distance phone operator, since November 1999. American Telephone operator MCI Inc,, formerly WorldCom Inc., plans to sell its controlling interest in Embratel to Mexico's Telmex (Telfonos de Mexico SA) for $360 million in cash. Rodriguez defended the sale of control of the company to Telmex, accusing a Brazilian consortium challenging the deal of monopoly ambitions. (Australfoto/Douglas Engle)
