Green Party Deputy Fernando Gabeira

Brazilian politician, author and journalist Fernando Gabeira walk past by Botanic Garden (Jardim Botanico), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, January 23, 1998. Gabeira, who was involved in the 1969 kidnapping of the US ambassador to Brazil, is disputing a run-off election as the Green Party (PV) candidate for Rio de Janeiro mayor with Eduardo Paes of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB). Gabeira has been a Federal Deputy since 1995 and is a founding member of the PV. He left the PV in 2002 to join the Worker's Party (PT), of Brazil's president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, but later rejoined the PV.
