Brazil´s Mission in Haiti
Read More16 / 23
Brazilian troops patrol in Haiti as part of the UN peace-keeping mission. The Brazilian military, with 1,300 troops in the Caribbean nation, leads a force of 7,000 UN troops there since 2004. The mission is part of an effort by Brazil to take a larger role on the international stage - which some analysts say is a part of Brazil's desire for a seat on an eventual larger UN security council. Brazil has also accepted Palestinian refugees from Iraq. (Australfoto/Tom Phillips)
