It is considered one of the best tourist attractions of the city. Opened on October 27, 1907 and completed in 1908, it is considered to be one of the finest examples of the Beaux-Arts style of architecture In 1909, President Taft was the first President to use the presidential suite and over the years many dignitaries were officially welcomed here, including King George VI, Queen Elizabeth of England, King Albert of Belgium, King Prajadipok of Siam, Queen Marie of Rumania, and King Haasan II of Morocco. The last President to use the Presidential Suite was President Eisenhower, although, George Bush did use it during an Inaugural Ball in 1989. The building fell into decay with the rise of air travel and in 1988, following three years of renovation at a cost of $160 million, Union Station reopened as a bustling retail center and intermodal transportation facility.
